History

czechia history-2
1990
Foundation of AIS

Our organization was founded in Bolton, England in 1990 as Ambassadors in Sport (AIS). From the beginning, AIS has aimed to be a Christian football ministry involving churches and Christian groups, serving all footballers.

1990s-1999
Early Czech Beginnings

The office in the Czech Republic is one of the oldest branches of Ambassadors in Sport. It began in the 1990s, when the first AIS leaders established contact with local Christians from Opočnice through 4 player tours. The AIS leaders who then returned to the Czech Republic in 1994 were: Dave Oakley (UK) – long-time director of the office in England, John Squires (NZ) – long-time head of the training program, Aaron Soby (USA) – later director of the office in the Czech Republic and Bill Galipaul (USA). The “football missionaries” worked here for 5 years, playing for local football clubs in Opočnice and Poděbrady, building relationships with local church congregations and trying to support them in football activities.

But the work was different in some ways due to the Czech environment. The original AIS leaders left in 1999 and no one continued the work in the Czech Republic.

2003-2004
Re-establishment in Czechia

The work was interrupted until 2003, when missionary Aaron Soby returned from the USA with his team of collaborators: Leah Wheeler, Bert and Marise Rinkel. In 2003, the AIS ČR branch was established in Písek and a year later it was officially registered as the civic association Ambassadors fko, later as the better-known Ambassadors os.

2005
Expansion and Move to Prague

They worked in Písek, Milovice, Tachov and Břeclav, and gradually cooperation was established with congregations or individuals in Prague, Vsetín and Český Těšín. In 2005, the headquarters was moved to Prague.

2007
Transition to Local Leadership

Foreign managers purposefully handed over their work to local workers and gradually left the Czech Republic. In 2007, Ondřej Mazaný became the branch director.

2014
Name Change

The year 2014 meant a double change for us. Globally, our organization received a new name and at the same time, the Czech legislation on non-profit organizations changed, so we became Ambassadors Football Czech Republic, zs

2003-2017
Growth of Programs
